This Gainesville Sun article describes the interesting history of Ice Production in GatorTown.


Due to the Club's preference to meet in what used to be an ice plant, this is a topic of definite interest.




This location was chosen for ice production because of the successful sinking of a 400-foot-deep well to obtain pure water. That asset makes it a natural location for brewing as well. And we can definitely recommend a glass of ice water there too.


Ice houses were heavily used until the post-war boom of the 1950s made it possible for normal people to buy an electric refrigerator.
