Did you know the Florida turpentine industry became the center of a scandal in which Black men were convicted on false charges and handed over to forced labor (ie modern slavery) in the forests of our beautiful state?

To understand how this practice fit into a bigger and equally sinister national picture, you should watch 13TH on Netflix.


These men could have been starting businesses, writing books, or running for national office. Instead their time, creativity, and health was stolen by rich people in power.
